Only about 30 years after becoming a country, America and Britain didn't get along again.

British ships were stopping American boats at sea, so President James Madison said 'enough.'

American and British sailors fought battles on the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean.

By 1815 the two countries signed a peace treaty and agreed to be friends again.

After this little war, other countries finally started treating the United States like a real, grown-up nation.
