Wangari Maathai

Wangari grew up in Kenya, running through green hills full of birds.

When she came home from college, the trees were being cut down and the land was hurting.

So she started the Green Belt Movement — women planting trees, one by one.

Over time, they planted more than 50 million trees across Africa!

She was the first African woman ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
