Louis Armstrong

Louis grew up in New Orleans, where music was everywhere — on porches, in parades, and in the streets.

As a boy he learned to play a shiny brass cornet, and soon a trumpet, and it made everyone want to dance.

His voice was gravelly and warm, like a friendly old bear singing you a happy song.

He traveled the whole world sharing jazz, and people called him Satchmo and Pops.

When he played, you could actually hear him smiling through the horn.
