A Tlingit hero who helped end unfair rules in Alaska.
The Story
Elizabeth grew up in Alaska in the Tlingit tribe, in a land of tall trees and cold seas.
In her town some shops had signs that said 'No Natives allowed.'
That felt very wrong to her, so she spoke up in front of the whole Alaskan senate.
Her calm, brave speech convinced them to pass America's first civil rights law.
Every February, Alaska has a day just for her.
