Annie Jump Cannon

As a girl in Delaware, Annie climbed to the attic on clear nights to watch the stars.

She grew up to work at a big telescope with a team of women called 'the Harvard Computers.'

She sorted more than 350,000 stars — more than anyone else, ever.

She invented an easy way to name them by their color and heat.

Every astronomer today still uses her star-sorting system.
