The March on Washington

In 1963, many people in America were still being treated unfairly because of the color of their skin.

So more than 250,000 people from all over the country came to Washington, D.C. to say, 'This must change.'

They gathered near the Lincoln Memorial with signs of hope and sang songs together.

A minister named Martin Luther King Jr. stood up and gave a beautiful speech called 'I Have a Dream.'

The whole world listened, and it helped America pass new laws so everyone would be treated the same.
