The Night on King Street

On a cold March night in Boston, a crowd of townspeople gathered on King Street, upset about British soldiers being stationed in their city.

They shouted at a lone soldier guarding the Custom House, and more red-coated soldiers marched over to help him.

In the confusion, shots were fired into the crowd, and five colonists died — the first was a dockworker named Crispus Attucks.

A silversmith you already know — Paul Revere — made a famous engraving of the scene that was printed everywhere.

People called it the Boston Massacre, and it made many more colonists start thinking that a change was coming.
