Kwame Nkrumah

Kwame grew up in a small village in Ghana and loved learning more than anything.

He traveled far to study and saw how big the world was.

When he came home, Ghana was ruled by another country, and he said, 'It's time we ruled ourselves.'

He gathered his people peacefully, with songs, speeches, and big hopes.

In 1957, Ghana became free, and Kwame was its very first leader.
