Zora Neale Hurston

Zora grew up in Eatonville, Florida — one of the first all-Black towns in America.

She loved hearing porch tales from neighbors and made up her own from an early age.

As a grown-up she traveled the South with a notebook, saving folktales that might have been forgotten.

She wrote a beautiful book called 'Their Eyes Were Watching God.'

Her stories helped the world hear the music of Black Southern voices.
