Sarah Winnemucca

Sarah was a Northern Paiute girl in Nevada who learned English as a child.

She grew up to speak four languages and could talk to almost anyone.

She traveled all the way to Washington, D.C., to tell leaders how her people were being treated.

She wrote the first book in English by a Native American woman.

Later she opened a school where Paiute children could learn in their own language.
