Grace Hopper

Grace grew up loving to take things apart to see how they worked — she once took apart seven alarm clocks in one day.

She joined the U.S. Navy and helped run one of the very first computers, a huge machine as long as a school bus.

Early computers only understood numbers, so Grace invented a way for them to understand words like 'add' and 'print.'

That helped grow into the programming languages people still use today.

Everyone called her 'Amazing Grace,' and she wore her Navy uniform proudly her whole life.
