The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month — the day the guns went quiet.
The Story
For four terrible years, World War I had been fought in the fields of Europe.
On the morning of November 11, 1918, leaders signed a paper called an armistice — a promise to stop fighting.
At exactly 11 o'clock, all the guns on the Western Front went silent for the first time in years.
In every town and village, church bells rang and people ran into the streets to dance and cry with joy.
That day is now called Veterans Day in America — a time to say 'thank you' to everyone who has served.
